narco news

Here's a short interview with Shaylih Muehlmann, a UC Berkeley professor who talks about how the drug trade affects the poor most of all in a number of different ways. Whatever country you live in, those who have the least pay the most... http://wire.arts.ubc.ca/featured/mexican-drug-trade-hits-rural-poor-families-hardest-says-ubc-prof/

NARCOLANDIA CONTINUES

We are back in La Ciudad and caught up on sleep. To my Frisky friends, if you didn't make the opening of Narcolandia it will be up for 3 more weeks at Sub-Mission Gallery.

When we made the postcards the subtitle was We give you guns, you give us drugs. Turns out we were truer than we knew. It's estimated that 90% of guns seized by ATF in Mexico come from the U.S.

Okay we just want to say thanks to all the artists, to Chucho and Aron and all the Sub-Mission gente. When it was raining cats and rats on Friday I was a little worried, but the show looked great. The people came out. The bands were dope. The speakers spoke their peace, and everyone had a good time. It was good to see old friends, make some new ones and meet the no cali artists. Here's a virtual tour of the show. If you have any questions about who did what, leave a comment...

NARCOLANDIA WORD OF THE DAY

Today's word: CRILOCO = METH

Now here are new works from Victor Payan and William Acedo soon to be hanging on the walls of Sub-Mission Gallery in San Pancho... Enjoy as together they are artistically yin and yan works of the badass variety...

LAST NIGHT A NARCO DJ SAVED MY LIFE

Hola Gente, Comadres, Compadres, Eses and Esas,

Peep the new work from John Miner. Super-Dope print available only at the NARCOLANDIA opening on the 17th at Sub-Mission Gallery. See you there rain or shine.

In Narco news read about the sophisticated radio networks that gangs create to be able to communicate, track and terrorize police. Radio Zeta is on the air http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/12/cartel-radio-mexico/?utm_source=Contextly&utm_medium=RelatedLinks&utm_campaign=Previous

JUST SAY NO - to Tigres Del Norte

It's exciting to see the work come in from L.A. artistas and wonder how it will mingle with it's San Pancho counterparts. Picked up a dope piece from Karen Fiorito. Also saw that the Mexican state of Chihuahua has banned Los Tigres del Norte for singing Narco Corridos. Yeah that'll fix the problem... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20120313/lt-mexico-drug-ballads/

A quick taste

Okay we are starting to get hyped (pun intended) here in Narcolandia because the work is beginning to trickle in. For those of you who can't make it to S.F. on the 17th be or if you just need a quick art fix, here is a sample of some of the work taken in a poorly lighted area with the "crappy 70's instamatic" effect on my camera. From top to bottom we have prints from Ricardo Duffy, Pancho Lipschitz, Jose Lozano and Victor Rosas. Hope you likes. This taste is free of course. It's $3 at the door of Sub-Mission Gallery but I guarantee you it will be superdope.

What we do in Narcolandia

NARCOLANDIA HAPPENS SATURDAY MARCH 17TH AT SUB-MISSION GALLERY IN S.F. 2183 Mission St. sf-submission.com

Artists include (LA) William Acedo, Ulises Diaz, Ricardo Duffy, Eme, Karen Fiorito, Jennifer Gutierrez Morgan, Pancho Lipschitz, Jose Lozano, John Everett Miner, Victor Payan, Pocha Pena, Victor Rosas, Matthew Thomason, (SF) Laura Campos, Gerardo Chow, Lawrence Colacion, Andres Galindo, HOMOspicious, K2, Carina Lomeli, Txutxo Perez, Antonio Valverde.

Narcolandia is not going to stop the violence or the corruption or the abuses of power or the loss of liberties. It is only an acknowledgement that things are out of control. It is an attempt to make visible images that are being swept under the rug and relegated to the occasional report  http://projects.latimes.com/mexico-drug-war/#/its-a-war As artists, when we don't know what to do, we make art.
